anorak!

assalamualaikumwarahmatullahiwabarakatuh,

the anorak has come a long way- from Greenland, where the inupiaq language of the eskimos gave us the word for a hooded waterproof jacket. the shabby anoraks worn by trainspootters and others with unfashionable and largely solitary hobbies led to such people being called anoraks from the early 1980.

now! you know! ^_^

airy fairy

assalamualaikumwarahmatullahiwabarakatuh,

once upon a time, airy fairy meant 'delicate or light as a fairy'- airy fairy lilian, flitting, fairy lilian, wrote lord tennyson in 'lilian' (1830). then along came a more scornful meaning, 'impractical and foolishly idealistic'-'he had already an airy fairy knowledge of the hole affair', wrote D.H. Lawrence in the lost girl (1920)

now! you know! ^_^
